OUR STORY
Our Story
How did we come to be? Our roots were formed in a desire to follow the example of Ken Wilson and Emily Swan, co-pastors of Blue Ocean Church Ann Arbor. Many of us were in similar church environments, with a desire to create a judgement-free community for all people to investigate Jesus and explore a life of faith.
We started meeting as a small group in the fall of 2015 with the intent to plant a church. In February 2016, we started meeting at an office in Clintonville, then met in Grandview, and now we gather in the beautiful chapel inside Maple Grove UMC.
While there are many churches in central Ohio who serve the average church-goer, there are plenty of people who wouldn’t consider attending a traditional church. We want to be a place where anyone can come in and explore faith at their own speed without the need to conform to a set of rules and religious cultural expectations.
Other Blue Ocean Faith Communities
You may find other churches that also have “Blue Ocean” or that were founded on the Blue Ocean model. Unfortunately, the Blue Ocean Network no longer acts as a fellowship of communities. Blue Ocean Faith Columbus should be considered a distinct, local community of faith. We are exploring alternative church networks while retaining our unique expression of following Jesus and our local leadership.
